The International Beer Challenge judges the World’s best beer’s and Curious Brew was awarded a Gold Medal.  You may be forgiven for thinking that Curious Brew being fermented with Champagne yeast and being of such quality is French, however this world beating lager is English!  With the climate change over the past decade the UK continues to produce World class wine and beers, with Curious brew is no exception.

At Italian-grill we source only the best beers we can find which we sell under our boutique beers range.  We believe eating out is a special experience where you should have the choice and opportunity to try unique different foods and drink: we call it the sweet shop affect where as a child in the sweet shop you had so many sweets to choose from you felt spoiled for choice!  Our aim is to spoil adults.

curious brew boutique lager at stalybridge restaurantOur Boutique beer, Curious Brew is a truly premium lager beer.  Brewed in England with precision and passion to create a uniquely satisfying, drier, cleaner, fresher, lager beer. It is made with  East Anglian malt, saaz and cascade hops, then re-ferment using Champagne yeast before adding a “dosage” of the rare and fragrant Nelson Sauvin hop, then  cold filtering this unpasturised beer into bottle.

Curious Brew is made with extensive beer know how and the wine-making expertise from the team at Chapel Down, it is made like a great wine which means it can’t be rushed and you can’t compromise on ingredients, time or techniques; simple ethos that we believe in with all our product at Italian-grill.

If everything was made to a cost we would all be eating value food and wines from the supermarkets, have you ever wondered why you can buy multi-case offers of beers at supermarkets?  Yes they may sell at a loss but they can buy them cheap because they are cheap and use cheap ingredients, this is true of many big brand premium beers who have spend lots on advertising

We don’t buy just any beers and therefore, perhaps reassuringly some of our lagers maybe slightly more expensive than your average beer but worth every penny. Off course we pride ourselves on giving you the best for the lowest price we can.

Tasting Notes
Smell is initially a dry, vineous note. Strongly reminiscent of champagne. dry almost sour brett yeast. Some biscuit malt. Mineral aspects come through, lemon, rock salts. Glowing gold colour and quite creamy, off-white head. lots of grassy aromas and little elderflower floral hints, with just a touch of toffee. On the palate it has plenty of body and textural richness, with more of that sweet, toffeed attack, a vivid fruitiness, and then a very nice bittering hop quality kicking in.

For those like me who prefer simpler tasting notes Long and very easy to drink, not too strong.
